Medcom Privacy Policy
Collecting and Using Personal Information
Welcome to Medcom’s web site. We appreciate your interest in us.
When you visit and navigate our sites and when you communicate with
us via our sites, we will not collect personal information about
you unless you provide us that information voluntarily. Any non-public
personal information that you may provide via our sites will be
used solely for the purpose stated on the page where it is collected.
Medcom will not sell, license or transfer personal information we
gather from you outside of Medcom and its affiliated companies,
except as necessary to provide you with information, services or
products that we offer independently or jointly with others, as
required by law or in connection with judicial or governmental
proceedings, or in connection with the sale of all or substantially
all of Medcom assets or of the assets of a division of Medcom.
By “personal information,” we mean information that is unique
to an individual and by which the individual may be identified,
such as name, address, social security number, or health or financial
information that is associated directly with an individual. This
information is collected in order to provide benefits and services
to you and to continue to improve and enhance our service offerings.
This information may include, but is not limited to, that which you
provide voluntarily through your interactions with the site, as
well as information about how you use and navigate through the site.
Statistical information derived from the information submitted
may be shared with third parties, however, such statistical information
is not associated with any individual in a personally identifiable
manner.
Your E-Mail
We welcome your comments or questions about our web sites and
have provided e-mail boxes for that purpose. We will share your
comments and questions with our customer service representatives
and those employees most capable of addressing your questions and
concerns.
Please note that your e-mail, like most, if not all, non-encrypted
Internet e-mail communications, may be accessed and viewed by other
Internet users, without your knowledge and permission, while in
transit to us. For that reason, to protect your privacy, please do
not use e-mail to communicate information to us that you consider
confidential. If you wish, you may contact us instead via non-cellular
telephone at the numbers provided at various locations on our sites
or, in the case of our health plan members, at the Member Services
toll free number that appears on your identification card.
There are some locations on Medcom’s web sites where we have made
special provisions for a more secure environment in which we can
exchange information with you. At each of these locations, we will
provide you with appropriate instructions.
Linking to Other Sites
From time to time, Medcom web sites may provide links to other
web sites, not owned or controlled by Medcom, that we think might
be useful or of interest to you. We cannot, however, be responsible
for the privacy practices used by other web site owners or the content
or accuracy of those other web sites. Links to various non-Medcom
web sites do not constitute or imply endorsement by Medcom of these
web sites, any products or services described on these sites, or of
any other material contained in them.
Promotions, Information, or Other Offers
We may from time to time, send you information or offers regarding
products or services of BCBSF or others in which we believe you
might be interested. These offers will include an option that you
may execute in order to discontinue similar contacts.
Changes to This Statement
Medcom reserves the right to make changes to this Privacy Statement
from time to time, which may be provided to you by any reasonable
means including, but not limited to, posting the revised draft of
the Statement on the Web site. You will be able to determine when
this Statement was last revised by checking the “Last Revised”
legend at the bottom of this Statement.
Notwithstanding the information policies stated above, the right
to store and disclose to third parties any information under the
following circumstances is reserved: when the law permits it (such
as, for example, to comply with laws or to respond to governmental
authorities); to legal advisors; and to protect the rights, property,
safety or security of AIG, AIG Companies, Web site visitors or the
public.
This Privacy Statement applies solely to online information
collection and use practices in connection with this Web site; it
does not apply to any practices conducted off-line or in connection
with other web sites owned or operated by Medcom or any Medcom
Company.
Last Revised: August 31, 2004
