COBRA & HIPAA Administration

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA) mandates that any organization with 20 or more full or part-time employees offer a “temporary continuation” of group health and Section 125 benefits to employees (and covered dependents) upon experiencing a qualifying event.

If you employ 20 or more full or part-time employees, you are subject to COBRA regulations.

Outsourcing your COBRA administration to Medcom will allow you to increase your productivity, reduce your liability and save money on your insurance premiums.

HIPAA Privacy Compliance

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and particularly the Privacy Rules, which were finalized on August 14, 2002, will impact almost every employer who sponsors a group health plan.

As a third-party administrator (TPA), Medcom has made the significant financial and technological commitment necessary to be in full compliance with the data transfer requirements.

The Privacy Rules, however, require action from employers who sponsor group health plans - action that in most cases should have been accomplished by April 14, 2003.

Medcom has the expertise, in-house and through its strategic partners, to assist clients in meeting their HIPAA compliance requirements. Using our documented HIPAA implementation methodology, we'll help you and your staff move confidently through the required steps.

A good starting point is our initial one-hour HIPAA Awareness program, offered at no fee for your top benefits decision makers. This overview of HIPAA covers the following:

  • What Is HIPAA?
  • Security/Privacy Regulations and Compliance Timetable
  • How Will HIPAA Affect Your Company?
  • What is Required for Compliance?
  • What do I Need to Do Right Now?

Upon request, we will develop and present a custom, half-day HIPAA education program geared to the needs of your managers and administrators, which will prepare them for their roles in HIPAA compliance.

Medcom will guide your staff step-by-step through the complexity of HIPAA implementation.
